Street furniture - Remove BT Telegraph poles
Start, support and encourage a campaign to stop BT erecting telegraph poles in the area, and to supply services underground. BT should be helping to improve the environment by removing overhead wires, not taking a short term least cost, view and burdening future generations with clean up.
Campaigns need not be costly, as many will give effort free to good causes, but can have a big impact in pressuring the mighty not to impose through thoughtlessness or greed.
Support could be given through campaign advice, website space, leaflet distribution, obtaining information on the population and population trend of telegraph poles.
Why the contribution is important
It will maintain / improve the area as a tourist attraction, bringing economic benefit.
If successful it would be good publicity for Bristol, as it would show how big corporations can be encouraged to behave better. This would strike a chord with many.
It promotes an attitude of "do things right up front"
It contributes to the quality of life of residents, and promotes a virtuous circle of local pride
