Scrap this scheme - put the money in vital services about to be cut!

My idea is  - scrap the scheme and don't spend the money! Put it towards the vital Council services which are about to be cut. (And don't tell me it's ring-fenced - I'm sure the Council can be creative about the use of budgets when it needs to be.)

Why the contribution is important

We've just had the austerity budget. What on earth is the Council thinking of, asking for ideas to spend £15K on things we don't need?  It would be an insult to council workers who lose their jobs and all those people in Bristol who are on the breadline to even contemplate such fripperies as building brick BBQs in parks, providing lockers to leave your shopping in and making fountains work.

If the Council doesn't withdraw this scheme, they'll be a laughing stock - I can just see the headlines "Council hands out £15K to the most well-off area of Bristol while laying off its workers and reducing vital services."

But the sacked Council workers and impoverished families won't be laughing. Let's bring some social justice and common sense to this issue.

This is a completely different issue. I am no more in favour of the cuts probably than you are. They always hit the poorest. Not spending this money on a 'feel good' scheme and letting it form a drop in the ocean of deficit will change nothing. Vote for a scheme that brings a little bit of happiness to the poorest instead.

Fight the cuts!
