I-SPi Interactive Species Photo Identification

I suggest an installation in brandon hill, or similar locality, of  an interactive facility for people to photograph and record videos of plants and creatures, and publish the photos instantly in an online forum for identification by experts and specialists such as the Natural Sciences department of Bristol City Museum.

The all weather device would have a built in compartment to place specimens which could then be viewed using a microscopic / macro lens. The photos could be emailed instantly worldwide. There would also be an articulated telescopic lens for recording larger or further away creatures.

The best photos could be displayed in an exhibition (possibly alongside BBC Wildlife photographer of the year).

Why the contribution is important

This is an mportant idea as it brings together social networking and current trends in online technology with Bristol's species-rich natural environment. Encouraging the younger generation to explore the natural world using devices they are already familiar with could help inspire the next generation of ecologists and help a new generation Bristolians develop a fascination with the Natural World.

In addition to this the I-SPI stations may act as vital gatherers of Biological data from the specimens recorded using their facilities. Every photo of a creature or plant would  be accosiated with the data as to where and when it was taken, helping Biologists monitor changes to the local wildlife by sending this data to the Bristol Regional Environmental Reocrds centre after each positive identification.
