Fixed BBQ's in parks

After watching my friend struggle with his portable BBQ yesterday and all the food he had to carry it reminded me of when I have been to Europe and they have fixed BBQs for the public to use in parks and places of interest.

I know the weather is not always that great in Bristol but I think this would be a great idea for everyone and encourage more people to enjoy these areas and spend time together.

Why the contribution is important

For more people to enjoy the local parks/places of interest and appreciate the beauty of Bristol!

Bristol's central parks and public gardens are far too few and small to absorb the smell, smoke, and scorches from the current craze for petroleum-based barbecues. Try to enjoy the scent of the trees and flowers instead, and be satisfied with a picnic. And be sure to take all your rubbish away afterwarwards.

I agree with this idea. Cooking on portable BBQs destroys the grass and is a fire hazard but people love to get out in the fresh air and eat with friends. More and more people are living in inner city flats and they can't BBQ on their balconies. How great it would be to have attractive, fixed BBQ areas with lots of tables under the trees for communal BBQing along with strict restrictions on BBQing anywhere on the grass. It wouldn't be so difficult to police either as this tends to happen on sunny weekends when neighbourhood police could cycle through the parks cautioning those who break the rules.
