Bristol as a Garden

Just as recently done in Paris, work with local designers / artists / residents to turn Bristol City Centre into a temporary garden / park.

See links for how it worked in Paris

Traffic would need to be diverted, reclaiming the streets for people. Temporary 'fields', trees and flowers would be brought in to re-create a garden landscape for people to enjoy. The 'garden / park' could have a specific theme linking to Bristol's heritage or agricultural links.

Why the contribution is important

It links to Bristol's Green City aspirations and has links to education, health, quality of life, environment history and heritage. It creates a visually attractive impact and shows the city in a different light.

The project creates the opportunity to invole a wide range of people and communities in a common purpose with a high impact output.

It will make a show case of the city and through marketing and promotion will attract tourists and visitirs and leave a lasting legacy.

Good idea - possibly a more limited version of this is...I noticed an article in the paper the other day that an office block near Old Market has been demolished and now with the recession its redevelopment is delayed. The developers want permission to use it as a car park for 3 years. This should be resisted (surely we want less cars coming into Bristol) and instead it should be greened temporarily, possibly even with mini allotments as an oasis for the 1,000s of office workers nearby.
